Safundi is a peerreviewed quarterly academic journal that publishes analyses of the United States and South Africa from a transnational andor comparative perspective seeking to understand each country in relation to the other. The title derives from the initial letters of South Africa and America and the word fundi which comes from the isiXhosa verbfunda which translates as to read or to learn.although new comparative and transnational research is the journals principal focus Safundi also publishes articles specifically addressing one country provided the research is of interest to an international audience. The Editors will consider submissions relating to other countries in southern Africa and the Americas as well as to other parts of the world if these lead to broader comparative insights.We encourage interdisciplinary perspectives on topics in fields including but not limited to anthropology human and cultural geography history languages and literatures communications visual cultures and film. Safundi publishes academic articles. Intelligent exploratory essays and suggestions for review articles are also welcomed. We occasionally solicit contributions to roundtable discussions.
