La gran actividad existente en el área de materiales en América Latina, motivó la creación de la primera revista científica de esta área en el año de 1996. Proyectada desde su creación para ser una revista virtual, la revista Matéria fue también innovadora por ofrecer tanto el acceso gratuito como la posibilidad de inserir “anexos” al texto principal en hiperlinks, debido a que no está restringida a la publicación en papel. La Revista Matéria publica artículos científicos, teóricos, experimentales y de revisión, sobre temas variados en el área de materiales, teniendo como público principal científicos de materiales, estudiantes de postgrado y profesionales de diversas áreas afines.
