Es el rgano oficial del Centro de Estudios Mayas del Instituto de Investigaciones Filolgicas de la Universidad Nacional Autnoma de Mxico publica artculos en espaol ingls francs y lenguas mayances.Interesada en dar a conocer el rico y complejo universo de saberes creencias y prcticas mayas desde el surgimiento de esta cultura hasta la actualidad la revista admite trabajos de corte histrico en sus distintas manifestaciones y antropolgico en todas sus disciplinas Arqueologa Arqueoastronoma Arqueobotnica Arqueozoologa Antropologas Fsica y Social Etnologa Lingstica Etnohistoria Etnomusicologa Biologa Derecho Ecologa Economa Epigrafa Geografa Geografa Humana Iconografa Religin etc. sin desdear la publicacin de textos dedicados a otros campos de la ciencia que se vinculen con el mundo maya. As da cuenta entre otras cosas del estudio estilstico de los monumentos la astronoma y sus nexos con manifestaciones culturales como la arquitectura los cdices y los calendarios informes de exploraciones arqueolgicas lectura y discusin de inscripciones jeroglficas textos prehispnicos coloniales y actuales de y sobre los mayas y ensayos acerca del entorno natural la organizacin social la economa y las manifestaciones religiosas de los mayas de ayer y hoy.
